Curriculum

Our curriculum ensures that all children are ready for the challenges that await them.  We consider...

How a child is learning.

What a child is learning.

Progress made across all areas of learning.

Summative development milestones.

Attainment at a particular point in time. Strengths and learning priorities.

Monitoring of trends to inform self-evaluation and improvement.

Impact of the curriculum on learning and progress.

We consider all the above when teaching our curriculum.

Intent – we work closely with families and build on what our children already know to then decide what we intend them to learn. Our children are ‘free range’ as they can explore all areas and mix with all ages of children which creates a nurturing environment with a real family feel in which our children can thrive.

Our curriculum gives the children the skills and cultural capital they need to reach their full potential and we demonstrate British Values.

Implementation - We implement the curriculum to ensure our children make progress in the seven areas of learning. We have high expectations of our children and plan and teach the EYFS ‘in the moment’! We revisit our experiences to ensure our children build on what they know and remember what they learn. We give our children time to try things for themselves and our routine provides the opportunity for self-help skills to be developed. We offer real life experiences to our children and we enjoy getting out and about. We explore our local area either by taking a stroll in high visibility bibs learning all about keeping safe or riding in the Nursery van, prams and our 6-seater tow truck.

‘Birth to Five Matters’ supports our teaching.

Impact - We evaluate the impact of the curriculum by checking what our children know, how they self-regulate and can what they can do.

Our children are happy, keen to learn and show confidence as they make their own choices and solve their own problems. In preparation for their transition to school we welcome teachers in to Nursery which gives the children the opportunity to become familiar and talk to their teachers all about their interests. Staff share their knowledge of the children to ensure a smooth transition. Our children are well prepared for their next stage of learning and can communicate their wants and feelings with adults and children alike.
